The machair fishing is co-ordinated by a dedicated fishery manager, John Steele, who manages the allocation of the lochs and boats to visiting anglers, whilst all bookings are taken through the South Uist Estate Office (Stòras Uibhist). Fishing on these lochs (boat and bank) is limited to those with a specific permit for each loch and bank fishing without the permit is not allowed.

Fishing permits for the hill lochs are sold by three South Uist Angling Club agents, as well as through Stòras Uibhist. An additional permit for use of a South Uist Angling Club boat can be purchased in advance from Stòras Uibhist.

Catch Returns

To help monitor the health of the fish stocks and the usage of the fishery we ask that all anglers complete a catch return that details not only the fish they catch, but also the lochs they have fished each day.

Catch return forms are issued with each permit.
